Maria’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria de Lourdes Ponte in her 72nd year. Predeceased and now reunited with her beloved husband Joao Luis Ponte. Devoted and loving mother and mother in law to Luis (Sandy) and Robert (Nadia). Cherished Avo to Kiara, Alyana, Alessia & Francesca. Predeceased by her parents Manuel Botelho de Sa and Maria das Neves De Melo. Dear sister and sister in law to Maria Jose De Melo (late Manuel De Melo), Manual Guilhermo Botelho (Sinlandia Botelho), Maria das Neves Rebelo (Benjamin Rebelo), Graciano Da Ponte (Guilerhmina Da Ponte), Antonio Da Ponte (Gorete Da Ponte), Analia Medeiros (Clemente Medeiros), Fernando Ponte (Isabel Ponte), Victor Da Ponte (Eduarda Da Ponte), Eduardo Da Ponte (Otilia Da Ponte), Nivea Couto (Luis Couto). She will be sadly missed by many nephews and nieces in Canada and Sao Miguel, Azores.
Mom was tired. She endured a life of chronic pain as a result of a workplace accident at the age of 29. Her challenges never defied her hope and happiness in many aspects of her life. As a devote woman of the Catholic faith, her religious beliefs helped her during her life and particularly after the loss of her husband and love Joao Luis. Mom would often say this is the cross I bear, she would always find peace in her beliefs and most important to her, her family. A giving woman who wanted nothing more than the company of her family and in particular her beloved granddaughters. Visitation at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL 43 Barton St. E. (near James) on Monday, August 26, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary’s Church (Park St. Hamilton) on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington. Mom always tried to give as much as she could to everyone and because of that, we kindly request that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Mission Services of Hamilton in her honour.
