Margaret « Marg » Elizabeth Colborne
The family of Margaret “Marg” Elizabeth Colborne (Fraser), age 54, of Cole Harbour, are heartbroken to announce her peaceful passing on August 9, 2019 on a beautiful sunny day in Hospice Halifax, with her husband and daughters by her side. Margaret was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick, the daughter of Lillian Bennett Fraser and the late Daryl Fraser.
She graduated from Saint John High School, followed by New Brunswick Community College in Saint John. She later moved to Halifax with her husband David, where she worked for the Provincial Government Public Passenger Division for several years before staying home to raise her two daughters. While at home, in addition to being a devoted mom, she found her passion in crafting, sewing and decorating. She made beautiful pieces to sell, as well as for her own home which she decorated with such care and pride. She loved nature, animals and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, planning many trips and vacations with her husband and daughters. She would light up the room the moment she entered, with both her smile and her amazing sense of humour. She was incredibly compassionate, caring dearly for all those around her and making friends easily wherever she went. She thrived at her most recent job with Admiral Insurance, where she made so many new friends, often returning home with a funny story about her day to tell us. Despite all the challenges and pain over the last 3 years, Margaret faced her diagnosis with strength, grace and hope, often more worried about her family than herself, even in her final days.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 32 years David Colborne and her beautiful daughters Alyson and Megan; mother Lillian Bennett Fraser; brothers Murray Fraser (Susan) and John Fraser (Yvonne); as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Daryl Fraser; and grandparents Evelyn and Cedric Bennett, and Murray and Freda Fraser. She will be deeply missed and remembered by many friends.
Margaret was fortunate to be able to spend the last 6 weeks at Hospice Halifax, which became her family’s second home. Here, they were able to spend time together, enjoying many family dinners, game nights, and their favourite— visits from therapy dogs. Her family wishes to thank the incredible nurses, doctors, volunteers and staff who went above and beyond to provide such beautiful and compassionate care during her final weeks.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, with funeral service on Wednesday, August 14th at 2 pm, followed by reception all at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the SPCA or Halifax Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com, Dartmouth Chapel
