In loving memory of Louise C. Doucette
July 23, 1932 – August 13, 2019
Sadly on August 13, 2019, Louise Doucette (nee Suteau) of Valleyview, Alberta passed away at the age of 87 years. Louise had also been a long-time resident of Sunset House, Alberta where she farmed and raised her family with her husband, Gerard Doucette.
Louise was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, on July 23, 1932 to Lawrence and Marie Suteau. While working at the hospital in High Prairie as a nursing assistant she met Gerard, and they married in 1957.
The rural life and farming was a large part of Louise’s life. From a young age, she enjoyed being outside, riding her horse, and taking care of animals. She had a pioneer’s resourcefulness and work ethic, always finding ingenious solutions to any problems she faced. She was dedicated to her family, and after they married Louise and Gerard moved to the Sunset House area where they raised three children. Louise had a green thumb and loved to garden. No matter where she lived she grew flowers and vegetables.
After Gerard passed away in 1996, Louise moved into the town of Valleyview. She lived for many years in the Shepard’s Village and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends. Last year she became a resident of the Red Willow Lodge in Valleyview. Louise liked to travel and had often taken bus tours to locations across North America. She was adventurous and was willing to try different things no matter her age. She had a beautiful creative spirit and spent her free time painting and trying many artistic mediums. Louise was an active person and over the years
did activities like square dancing and floor curling. Her floor curling team won silver in the 2015 Alberta Senior Summer Games.
Most of all, Louise devoted her life to helping others, and volunteered with the Red Willow Lodge and the Valleyview Senior’s Drop-in Centre for over 20 years. She understood the importance of giving back to her community and would spend time weekly assisting with activities and visiting with the residents. No matter if it was volunteering or in her day to day life, Louise would always give freely of her time and attention. She had a strong Catholic faith and truly lived its values.
Her love and personal strength will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Left to mourn are her children – Yvonne (Jim) Wietzel – Calgary, Ivan (Lystra) – Islay, AB, and Dan (Lauri) – Grande Prairie; granddaughters – Jennifer Krygier (nee Wietzel), Joanne Hazelwood (nee Wietzel), Jennifer and Celeste Doucette, Kailey and Kassidy Doucette; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by all her siblings (3 brothers and 1 sister).
A funeral service will be held at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Valleyview on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of
any flowers or cards, donations can be made to either The Red Willow Lodge or St. Rita’s Catholic Church.
