Leah Goodwin passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario on August 15th, 2019 at the age of 94 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Leah was born in Donkin, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the ninth of 11 children born to John T and Alice (Cameron) Milley. Leah is predeceased by her brothers Chesley, Johnny, Alex and Elroy Milley and her sisters Sadie MacDonald, Effie Brann, Ethel MacKay, Hazel Johnson and Bernice Cudworth. She earned a nursing degree in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and was a practicing registered nurse for over 30 years, finishing her career at Toronto East General Hospital. Leah is survived by her loving husband, Ben Goodwin, her children Richard Goodwin (Jenny Libien) and Lynn Lewis (James), her 9 grand children, Molly and Annie Goodwin, Eric, Stephen, Kevin, Peter, David, Matthew and Michael Lewis, her older brother Burnie Milley and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Leah was devoted to her close-knit family. She could be counted on to generously offer unconditional love, care and support, not only to her husband, children and grandchildren, but also to her elderly mother, siblings, and a large number of extended family members. Leah’s kind and helpful nature also embraced many others. She was very involved in Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and Kingston Road United Church. She loved to make crafts, knit and quilt. She has touched many lives.
We would like to thank the many wonderful ladies who have helped care for Leah during her declining years. You have enriched our lives as well as hers. We would also like to thank the staff at Hospice Wellington for their kind support during Leah’s final days.
A funeral service will be held at Memory Gardens, Breslau Ontario, on Saturday August 24th at 3 PM. A reception will follow. Flowers would be welcome or donations may be made to Hospice Wellington in Leah’s memory.
