Keith Andrew Speers
February 22, 1944- August 24, 2019
Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the age of 75 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Keith grew up in Caledon, Ontario. As a young boy he loved to play hockey, lacrosse and baseball in between chores on the farm. He was the middle child to Andy and Ila Speers.
When Keith and Joanne began their love story, Keith worked for the Simcoe County Board of Education and taught Geography, Math and PE at Banting Memorial High School in Alliston and Bradford DHS in Bradford. Before Keith’s retirement, he served as President of the Simcoe County Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) for six years. He made many fond memories and lasting friendships.
Keith leaves his loving wife Joanne of 36 years, his children; Kim Speers (Ron) of British Columbia, Rob Speers of British Columbia, Julie Speers (Melody) of British Columbia and Tammy Speers (Sian) of Wales, United Kingdom, his sisters; Blanche Drahun (John), Deb Hutchinson (Don); and sister in law Anne Marie Colton (Chris) of Pickering. Keith was a special uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He loved spending time landscaping lawns at the house in Barrie, gambling at Rama and Georgian Downs, and golfing. One of the highlights in his golfing career was a “Hole-In-One” in August of 2017.
Those who remember Keith know that he loved spending time with friends.
A Celebration of life for Keith will be held at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie) on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 12-3 p.m. with Tributes at 12:30 p.m. Memorial donations to Victoria Village Manor 3rd Floor Windsor would be greatly appreciated.
