Obituary for
John Austin Edwin Kyle
John passed away July 31, 2019 aged 85 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, after suffering a large aneurysm bursting in the left side of his brain that morning. John is survived by his wife Joan, his chosen daughter Luwam, his goddaughter Lauren and her sister Megan, his godson David of England, his sons John Mark Barden (Rhonda) of Saskatchewan and Edwyn Barden (Michele) of Alberta, his first wife and mother of his sons Sylvia Stanley and his six grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Nicholas, Dylan, Meagan and Maryn.
John’s childhood was in WWII southeast England with memories of bombs and air raid shelters being memories he always carried. He began his university life in classics at the University of London, England and in 1958 came to western Canada to continue his studies. John received a L.TH. (Licentiate of Theology), a B.A. Hons (Psychology) and a B.S.S.C. (Bachelor of Social Science).
In 1962 John married Sylvia of England after she joined him in Canada. Both sons were born in western Canada.
John spent his working life as a navigator in the Royal Air Force (of Britain), as a pastor of the Anglican Church and as a social worker with the poor. He loved helping people.
John had countless interests which his very active and intellectual mind helped him to pursue. He could find something fascinating in anyone and in anything.
In 1984 John married Joan. They often found themselves looking up at mountains of difficulties but between them they repeatedly found paths to the sunshine.
John’s ashes will be interred Saturday, August 17 at 11 am at Morewood Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Morewood, ON. The funeral will be at Knox Presbyterian Church, 120 Lisgar Street (corner of Elgin Street) on Saturday, August 17 at 2 pm with reception following at 3 pm. Free garage parking at Ottawa City Hall is accessed from eastbound Nepean Street.
Should anyone wish, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or
Presbyterian World Service and Development both of which were special to John.
