Obituary of Eliza Gruening
GRUENING, Eliza Wilhelmine – It is with great sorrow we announce the death of Eliza Gruening. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Kurt Gruening (1989). Best friend of Hartfrid “Hart” Hentschel. Loving mother of Manfred Gruening & his wife Susan, Sarnia, Patricia Hastings & her husband David, Fall River, N.S. and Eliza Lendzian & her husband Rolf, Komoka. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth Gruening-Hay (Jason), Toronto, Peter Gruening (Shanon), Sarnia, Christopher Hastings (Isabel) Germany, Stephan Hastings, Germany, Roland Lendzian (Adriene), Komoka & Derek Lendzian (Sarah), Edmonton. Proud great-grandmother of 7. Predeceased by her parents Arthur & Lydia Vogt, brother Walter Vogt and her sister Ursula Dobert. Eliza was co-owner of Gruening Steel Services Limited with her husband Kurt and her children. She was active within the German Canadian Club of Sarnia and a part of the Ladies Group, Carnival group, selling sausages and sauerkraut on Canada day and helping out wherever she could. Eliza was a life long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sarnia. The family would like to thank the staff at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Blue Water Health Palliative Care and St. Joseph’s Hospice for the excellent care she received over the last few days. The family will never forget the constant thoughtfulness shown to Eliza. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia. Funeral service will be celebrated at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 429 Indian Road, Sarnia on Saturday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Irwin Cemetery following the luncheon.
