Elizabeth Planidin, nee Shoustoff, passed peacefully on August 5th, 2019 at the young age of 91. Elizabeth was born on Nov.21, 1927 in Salmo, BC. She was previously deceased by her husband Nick William Planidin, 1995, her parents John Shoustoff, 1987 and Anne Shoustoff, nee Legebokoff, 1988, her sister Emma Konkin, 2009.
Elizabeth has 3 children, oldest Kimble Nicholas Planidin, with wife Debra from Kaslo BC, Charlotte Planidin, deceased Sept. 2016, and Jordan Planidin, deceased Jan. 1997. She has 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
She was a mother and caregiver to so many more in the Salmo community, taking care of others was a regular part of Mom’s life. Mom lived her whole life in Salmo. She was born, raised, married, and raised her own family there. Mom was also an avid gardener, with both huge vegetable and flower gardens, which were always prolific and weed free. Mom won many awards for her produce, especially her “large” pumpkins weighing from 300 – 400 lbs. Mom was also an amazing quilter, starting as a young girl she was hand-stitching her quilts until well in her 80’s. Kim lost count at over 500 quilts. Her hands were always busy, knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing, sometimes into all hours of the night. Earlier in her life, as a young family, they spent a lot of time outside, mainly huckleberry picking and fishing.
Mom’s heart was always in Salmo, even though she spent the last year of her life in the Cottonwoods Care Facility in Kelowna, just to be closer to Kim and Debra.
Mom was one of those special women, when you meet, she opens her arms to welcome you in. A very genuine, caring and compassionate women. She will be deeply missed by us all.
A graveside reception was held for Mom on August 10th at Boulder Creek Cemetery in Salmo, where she was buried with her parents, children – Jordan and Charlotte and her sister Emma and other close relatives.
