Don John Breen avis de deces

It is with profound sadness that we announce Don’s passing peacefully on Tuesday, August 20th at home. Don was extremely proud to have been able to live independently in his later years.
Don was predeceased by his father Thomas and mother Eleanor, brothers Thomas and Kenneth, and sister Dorothy Van de Meent, his wife Kathleen, and son John. He is survived and will be remembered by his daughter Elly Prendergast (Rick Marrin), his grandsons PJ Prendergast (Kim) and Scott Prendergast (Connie), and his great-grandchildren Caity and Kenzie, Owen, Lucas and Grace, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and had many deep and long-lasting friendships. He had a great love and connection with Kathleen, and they were married in 1949. Don showed us what love looked like when he took care of Kathleen through her long illness before she passed away too soon in 1985.
Don was employed at MTS for 41 years, retiring in 1985. During his working years he was actively involved in the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a founding member of the Commonwealth Aviation Museum in Brandon. In retirement Don was very involved with the Winnipeg South Minor Baseball Association and he was humbled to have a diamond named in his honour at the Charleswood Baseball Complex.
Don lived an independent life filled with integrity and compassion – he was always willing to lend a hand and help. In later years Don faced a number of health challenges with strength and character. Instead of complaining about these challenges he focused on his blessings and showed us to be grateful for what we have.
He will live in our memories. Thank you for who you were, the example you left for us to continue, and to know what is truly important.
He was our Don, our Dad, our Gramps, and our Gigi. He was loved and will be missed.
Cremation and a private interment will take place.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Don’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society (which was close to his heart) would be appreciated.
