“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, loved, still missed and very dear” – Del Dennis
Mary Dolores Blanche “Del” Dennis of Mayerthorpe, AB was born March 30, 1933, and passed away July 31, 2019, at the age of 86 years, after a courageous three-year battle with colon cancer.
Del is survived by her daughters, Terry Scott of Edmonton, Lee (Steven) Cech of Edmonton, Patricia (Francis) Cech of Enderby, BC, Julie (Darrell Knister) Scott of Fort Saskatchewan, and Tracy (Murray Scott) Christensen of Bonnyville; son-in-law, Richard Houston of Sherwood Park; sister-in-law, Marilyn Guthrie of Peachland, BC; brother, David (Shirley) Guthrie of Mayerthorpe; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; several nephews and nieces; and many more dear relatives and friends. Anyone in receipt of Del’s proud holiday letters would be kept up to date on her growing family.
Del was predeceased by her beloved and only son, Roger Thomas Dennis; father, John Guthrie; mother, Mary Whitby; and brothers, John and Bill Guthrie.
Del could always be found taking care of her beloved Pomeranians and was often accompanied by Dove almost everywhere she went. When visited by family and friends, Del was likely found sitting in her rocking chair completing her latest cross stitch masterpiece, of which each grandchild was a lucky recipient. Everyone has their own favourite memories of Del, but what is most certain is Del lived her life the way she wanted to, just like her passing, on her own time.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Naicker, the nurses and staff of the Mayerthorpe Healthcare Centre, staff of Home Care Mayerthorpe, and Heritage Home Health of Barrhead. Each of you provided such loving care and the wonderful opportunity to fulfill Del’s wish to live her final months at home on her porch with Dove, laughing, telling jokes and stories to family and friends.
Respecting Del’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held followed by the inurnment in Blue Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be gratefully accepted to Alberta Cancer Foundation – Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Del
