Whitney Pier
With great sadness, we the family, announced the passing of our mother, Gladys Mildred Crewe, Age 87, on Sunday August 18, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Gladys, a lifelong resident of Whitney Pier, was the daughter of the late William and Mae Clarke.
Gladys was a loving wife to the late Wallace Crewe and wonderful mother to daughters, Valerie (Jim Brown), Debbie (Gord MacDonald), Beverly (Tom) Phalen, Linda (Kevin) Gabriel and proud grandmother to Tina, Elizabeth and Ian. Gladys is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy (Ernest) Mugridge, Rita (Ronald) Morrison; brother, Fred (Pearl) Clarke; sister-in-law, Dodie Clarke; best friend, Ellen Gushue; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Gladys was predeceased by her siblings, Harold, William, Walter, Douglas, Wilson, Cecil and Hilda.
In her earlier years Gladys was a member of the Branch 128 Whitney Pier Ladies Auxiliary. She loved bowling and was a long-time member of the Sydney Whitney Pier Bowling League and later in the Seniors League. Gladys will be remembered with great love in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Gladys Crewe will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier on Thursday, August 22, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel. Light refreshments will take place in the funeral home reception area, following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Gladys can be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
