PORTEOUS, ARTHUR CLAIRE
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Arthur Claire Porteous announce his passing on Friday August 9, 2019, at the age of 76. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Claire was born on July 30, 1943 and was raised in Ventnor, Ontario. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Shirley Marie Kennedy, and settled in the Prescott area where they would build a life together lasting 53 years. He had a passion for cars and would be the proud owner of many over the years. Claire was employed at SCI (formerly Automatic Electric and Brock Telecom) for 37 years before retiring in 2002. There, he was known for taking pride in his work and his love of a good conversation. After his retirement, his attention turned to the love of his grandchildren. On any given day, rain or shine, he could be found in the stands at an area hockey rink, camped out behind home plate at the baseball field, front and centre at a piano recital or ready to give a hug at the finish line of a cross country race. His family was his world.
Claire will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marie, son Paul (Christina), daughter Amy (Steve) and two grandchildren, Gavin and Allie. He will be sadly missed by his sisters; Hilda (Jim Wellard), Helen Sine and Pat (Bill Large), his brother David Golledge (Mary), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by his parents Art and Carrie (Sayeau) Porteous, as well as his brother Basil Golledge his wife Ina, sister Edna Rabbie her husband William, sister Greta Yeldon and her husband Bill.
Claire’s family is so very thankful for the wonderful care he received while in hospital. The medical staff on the First Floor Unit and Palliative Care Team at the Brockville General Hospital are to be commended for their dedication to providing the best support possible during what were some very difficult days.
In keeping with Claire’s wishes a Private Family Visitation will take place at MacKay Funeral Home 416 Dibble St. West, Prescott to be followed by a Private Graveside Service in Maynard Cemetery.
