Brigitte’s Obituary
MALONE (Liepera), Brigitte Gisela – 79, passed away peacefully August 10, 2019 in Roseway Hospital, Shelburne, NS. Born on July 24, 1940 in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Gertrud Mensel and step-daughter of the late Karl Heinz Mensel. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister, Barbara Lipera, arriving in Halifax in March 1956. The family eventually settled in Vacouver, BC. In June 1969, she married Radford Malone and moved to Nova Scotia in the early 1970s. Brigitte and Radford worked for Scott Paper in Apple River with inmates from Springhill Institution for a number of years before moving to Charlesville. She spent many years on light stations where her husband was lightkeeper, after which they lived in the home they built in Charlesville. Brigitte is survived by daughter, Rose; grandson, Christopher; son-in-law, Gary; step-son, Michael; step-daughters, Shirley Proctor, Debbie Waybret; several step-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Dedo Peter Sochting; second husband, Radford Sherman Malone; step-sons, Gary (Bo), Gerald Malone; step-daughters, Janice Atkinson, Barbara Nickerson; sister, Barbara; and brother-in-law, Alex. Brigitte loved gardening, her dogs and the shopping channel. The past three years she spent at Gentle Care Seniors Boarding Home where she was very happy. She spent the last several weeks in Yarmouth and Shelburne Hospitals. She will be missed by those who knew her and now she is with her family who passed before her. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. There will be a graveside service, Friday, August 16, 2 p.m. in the Green Grove Cemetery, Charlesville, with Richard MacAdams officiating.
