A true native of Jasper, Bea was born into a house on a Patrica St beside the Atha-B. She attended Jasper Public school and then finished high school in Montreal. During the war the Martel family moved to Montreal and returned to Jasper in 1947. Upon returning, Bea started working at the Post Office, also moving on to work at various banks in Jasper, Calgary and Edmonton. In 1957 she returned to Jasper where she once again worked at the Post Office until her retirement in 1992. In 1979 she married Umberto “Bert” Del Fabbro. Bea and Bert traveled extensively, their adventurous souls visiting many different countries.
In younger years Bea and her father would go fishing on Caledonia Lake, Patricia Lake and Medicine Lake. She was active in the Catholic Young People’s Group, ice skating at the outdoor rink, swimming and Hag Stags.
Bea’s love for books and the library began when she volunteered when the library was in the basement of the administrative building prior to it being moved to the Malinge building, then finally the old RCMP barracks office.
Bea is survived by her nieces Erica Vandenbossche (Curtis) of Surrey, BC and Suzi Kiegerl (Shaun) of Salmon Arm, BC and her great nieces and nephew, Emma, Victoria and Colin.
We would especially like to call attention to the exceptional care and kindness shown to those who were with Bea during her last days by the remarkable caregivers from Seton General Hospital, Alpine Summit, and the DAL, those friends were tended to with such thoughtfulness and we are truly grateful to those who sat by her and for those who ensured their comfort.
Bea’s family would like to invite you to celebrate her phenomenal life on September 21, 2019 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Jasper at 11am.
In Lieu of flowers we feel Bea would be delighted if donations could be made to the Jasper Museum and/or Alpine Summit Senior’s Lodge recreation fund.
