Argia Margherita “Ita” Deni
Peacefully, with family at her bedside, passed away at her home on August 19, 2019 at the age of 98. Beloved wife of Giuseppe Deni predeceased 2000. Loving mother of Ferruccio (Marta), Argia (Marino Giacomini), Danilo predeceased 1988. Cherished « Nonna » to her grandchildren; Roberto Deni (Nancy), Amanda Deni (Jason Houghton) and great grandchildren; Joseph, Tommaso, Olivia and Jacob. Predeceased by her parents Giuseppe and Maria Medizza and brother’s Giuseppe (Emilia) and Erminio (Durdica). Fondly remembered by friends and neighbours.
Argia was a woman of resilience, courage and grace. Her life was not without its share of hardship. As a young wife and mother in her native Italy, she witnessed the atrocities of the Second World War, and ended up as a refugee in her own country for several years following the end of the war. Argia ultimately immigrated to Canada with Giuseppe and their children, where they rolled up their sleeves and established a new life. She knew the value of hard work, and always sought to impart that value to us. Her resolve would again be tested by the unexpected passing of her youngest son, and it was her faith and inner strength that helped her manage that grief and always remain the wonderful person that she was.
Argia enjoyed taking care of her home and garden, and was a meticulous seamstress and an excellent cook. She was very well-organized and always took pride in her appearance regardless of where she was going. In line with her fun-loving nature, and though in her nineties, you would still see her on the dance floor at weddings. And of course, she always looked forward to gathering with family and friends and sharing with them, in great detail, her amazing life experiences. She remembered everything and forgot nothing. Those conversations were often filled with laughter and sometimes tears. Above all else, she was devoted to her family… we were her pride and joy and she embraced each of us with love, kindness and generosity. She always took such good care of us when we went to visit, especially her grandkids. You never left her house hungry or unhappy, and she never let you leave without a few extra dollars in your pocket. She would be the first to tell you that she was so thankful for being blessed with a beautiful home and family. And fittingly, God blessed her with incredible mental and physical health for her 98 years that allowed her to live her life comfortably and independently, in her own home right up to her last days with us. She was a wonderful role model and inspiration to all of us and to others who had the privilege of knowing her. We will miss her so much.
