Alfred O. Harding, or Al as he was affectionately known, was born on February 23, 1932, in Montreal, Quebec and passed away on August 7, 2019 in Calgary. He was the son of Cyril Joseph and Carmen Andrenette and brother to James Edward (Hazel Davis), Irene Gwendolyne, Patricia Carmen (Henry Alphonse), Florence Ursula (Dealy Kay), Dorothy Amy May, and John Selwyn (Beverly Jean). Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Arlette, son Andrew, daughter Cathy, son-in-law Barry, granddaughter Kaede, and by Arlette’s sisters Diane (John), Francine (Larry), and Huguette (Ed). As a young man, Al served in the Army and was stationed in post-war Hanover, Germany. Upon his return, he received his certification in payroll administration and embarked on a 40 year career that included time in northern Quebec and 13 years as Payroll Supervisor for Pan Canadian Petroleum Limited in Calgary. When the chance to retire early presented itself, Al was excited to have the extra time to golf, travel and make traditional English Christmas pudding. Al was also an avid home video maker and film collector, frequently holding screenings for family and friends. He was a dedicated volunteer, giving 20 years of his time to the Calgary Special Olympics, the Alberta Sports & Recreation Association for the Blind and, Alberta Society for the Visually Impaired. He received the “Great Albertan” as recognition for being an individual who unselfishly contributes time, talent and energy into making Alberta a better place to live, and a better place to call home. Al will be remembered as a generous and kind man and he will be sorely missed. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish (10827 24 St SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in Blessed John Paul II Jubilee Room.
