Vaughan Samuel Dickie
Dickie, Vaughan Samuel- 86, Onslow, passed away peacefully in Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche on July 25, 2019. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Walter and Hilda (Richards) Dickie.
Vaughan played hockey for many years in the Onslow and District League and for the Truro Bearcats Old Timers. He loved coaching the Truro Midget All-Stars and the Debert Old Timers. Being involved his entire life in the agriculture industry, Vaughan especially enjoyed the cattle shows and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. He was a director for the NS Provincial Exhibition and served as manager for one year. He also served as a director for the Atlantic Winter Fair. He was a founding member of the Onslow-Belmont Fire Department. Vaughan was also a proud member of the Liberal Party. He enjoyed travelling to Florida and spending time at his cottage in Brule with family and friends.
Vaughan is survived by his son, Wade; grandson, Logan and his sister, Estelle. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Brenda; son, Samuel; a son in infancy; sister, Doreen as well as brothers, Gordon, Straten, Carl, Peter, Doug and Keith.
Cremation has taken place with arrangements being entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
A visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019. A Firefighter’s Tribute Service will begin at 1 pm. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 with a Memorial Service immediately following all in the Onslow-Belmont Fire Hall. Interment will be in the Onslow Island Cemetery following the reception. Family flowers only.
