Obituary of Richard Thomas Jackson
Richard Thomas Jackson was born in Vancouver, B.C. on February 4, 1942 to Ethel Thorne and Richard Thomas Jackson Sr. He and his siblings Jim and Rose Ellen grew up and went to school in Niagara Falls. Unknown to them at the time, they had another brother, Gerry, who in later years was welcomed into the family. All four have spent the bulk of their lives in the Niagara area.
Richard’s first job as a medic in the Navy took him on submarines to many places in the world, and he remained a lifelong lover of travel and a student of Spanish.
After his service in the Navy, he married Rita and settled in Ontario; he worked at (Hayes) Dana for many years as a plant medic, supporting the workers and developing friendships that have lasted to this day.
Richard and Rita raised their children, Cindy and Derek, along with Rodger and Steve (Rita’s children from a previous marriage) as well as several adopted and fostered children such as Liz Bell and Randy. Richard’s second marriage to Sue on April 25, 1992 added Gord, Kath and Hugh to the family circle.
An active member of his community, Richard was well respected for his volunteer service. His huge capacity for embracing those around him will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Richard’s life will be celebrated at Trinity United Church, 4285 William Street in Beamsville at 3pm on Sunday July 14. If you wish to make a memorial donation, consider a gift to a charity of your choice.
