Obituary of Norma « Joan » Louise Hazel
Norman « Joan » Louise Hazel, 73, of Waterville, passed away on Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at Evergreen Home. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Lorraine (Ross) Atkinson.
Joan was a member for many years of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, Berwick and of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Joan enjoyed darts, cards and gambling and spent many hours with Frank at the Legion. She loved spending time with her special group of friends she has had since first arriving in the Valley. She looked forward to the pool opening and inviting her friends over. All company was always welcomed, especially visitors from « down home » – Cape Sable Island.
Joan’s career included positions at Waterville Rehab, Graves, Mountain View and Berwick Hospital. She worked for the joy she got out of it, and the opportunity to make new friends.
Joan is survived by her children daughter Kathy Hazel and son Jason Hazel, both of Waterville, along with three grandchildren Christopher, Shawn, and Jenna and great-grandson Rhyker. Joan is also survived by brothers Robie (Georgina) Atkinson and Winston (Bueina) Atkinson all of Stoney Island, Sylvester (Marjorie – deceased 1985) Atkinson of Middleton and Leo (Patricia) Atkinson of Barrington. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Hilda Pulsifer of Berwick and Martha Atkinson of South Side; along with many special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Frank Hazel; sister Virginia Atkinson of Vermont and two siblings in infancy.
The family wish to thank the Joan’s caregivers and the visits by many family and friends.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 6-8 pm and Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at Berwick Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in the Berwick Cemetery and reception to follow service in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #69, Berwick. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
