Lieu Thi Tran Tran 2019

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lieu Thi Tran announces that she passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, Freeport Campus on Monday, July 8, 2019, with family by her side. She was born in My Tho, Viet Nam on September 13, 1947 and is the eldest child of Tong Van Tran and Anh Thi Pham. It was here that she lived with her sister and four brothers before taking post- secondary schooling in Saigon. She worked at Bo Noi Vu, a government office in Saigon, issuing visas and passports. She married her husband, Hien Van Huynh on January 7, 1973.
On March 25, 1979, Hien, Lieu and their three young children with one on the way, as well as Lieu’s brother, Loc were amongst twenty-three people to escape Viet Nam in a boat built and piloted by Hien. Leaving their home, beloved family, and a much respected and affluent life to give their children a new beginning in a country away from the Vietcong was their desire. A dangerous five days were spent on the South China Sea before Hien and Lieu were robbed at gun point by pirates and brought to a refugee camp in Pilau Bidong, Malaysia, where they spent six months. They arrived in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 26, 1979 in answer to Dannevirke Lutheran Church’s request for sponsoring a family. It is in Redvers, Saskatchewan that they made their home and started a new life from the ground up for their family.
During the summer months of her early years in Canada, Lieu worked in the kitchen of the Skyline Motor Inn, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan as well as Dick’s Cafe in Redvers. In 1984 Hien and Lieu built a successful electrical-mechanical shop named Redvers Auto Electric. Here, she managed the office part of the business.
Predeceased by her parents; her sister Minh Thi Tran and brother-in-law Thanh Van Huynh; and her son Jim Huynh. Fondly remembered by husband, Hien Huynh; her brothers, Danh Van (Dao)Tran, Hiep Huu (Lan) Tran, Loc Huu (Thoa) Tran, and Dao Minh (Hoa) Tran (Hoa); and brother-in-law Danh Cong (Be) Huynh. Loving mother of Tyffenie Huynh, Matthew Huynh, Trang (Quoc) Nguyen, and Joanne (Carlos) Alegre. Cherished grandmother to Cole, Connor, Chase, Cameron, Clarke, and Cohen Nguyen; Darius, Kyra, and Ryatt Huynh; and Dylan, Alexandra, Charlize, Jasmina, and Kennedy Alegre. She will be missed by many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
We are forever grateful, Mom for all of the sacrifices you have made for us, for being an amazing role model and for ensuring that we were consistently set up for success. You are definitely a pillar of strength and your battle with kidney failure these past 5 years, and then the last 2.5 years with cholangiocarcinoma has shown us that you were not going down without a fight. You are definitely our hero. You have accomplished so much throughout your lifetime and never once complained about your hardships. You have set a fantastic example and are without a doubt someone to be admired. Your incredibly big heart, kindness, selflessness, generosity, integrity, compassion, loyalty, tenacity, resiliency, sense of humour, playfulness, and positivity are found in your children and grandchildren. We are forever grateful for all that you have done and we are truly blessed to have had you as our Mom. Everyone who knew you, knew you lived for your children. Thank you – we appreciate you and all that you have done. Mom, you have no doubt left a wonderful legacy and we are proud of you.
