Edward (Ted) Skene, beloved husband of the late Eva Skene passed away after a lengthy illness on July 25th, 2019 at the age of 91 years. Besides his loving wife Eva, Ted is survived by his daughters Lynda (Werner) Skene and Cindy (Barry) Welsh, grandchildren Rob Welsh, Christy (BJ) Boot, Wes (Zoe) Skene, great grandchildren Brady, Jordy, Kody Welsh, Josh, Ali, Tanner, Nikki, Jaxson, Nathan Boot, Addison, Belle Skene, sisters Stella Davies, Joan Hatch, Fran Blair as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Ted was also predeceased by his parents Charlie and Lillian Skene, his brother Irvin Skene, his sister Rena Fotheringham, his two dear sons Rick and Greg Skene, his nephew Steve and several brothers and sisters in law.
Ted was born on January 10, 1928 in Dryden, Ontario and grew up with his parents, brother and four sisters on a farm near the hamlet of Oxdrift. He developed a love of horses as a child, spending many hours riding ponies with his cousin Tom Skene. In the late 1940s Ted headed west to Alberta where he would soon meet the love of his life Eva Brewster who he married in 1951. They eventually settled on a farm south of Fort Macleod where they raised their four children Lynda, Cindy, Rick and Greg and their weekend son Jeff Segboer. They lost their beloved sons Rick and Greg in a tragic accident in1979 but bravely continued on focusing all of their love on their remaining family. Ted and Eva retired to an acreage next to the golf course in Fort Macleod where until recently he worked tirelessly on his many vegetable and flower gardens. Ted was a man of many interests. He was a construction foreman, a farmer, a rancher, a farm equipment dealer and an occasional inventor. Ted and Eva shared a love of horses and for many years raised and raced thoroughbreds and running quarter horses. He was active in the community, involved in the local rodeo and a founder of the Cattle Feeders Association. Ted was a good and decent man, a loving husband and father, a friend to many and Grampa Skene to both his own grandchildren, great grandchildren and their many friends. Ted lost his beautiful Eva almost a year ago and missed her terribly. His kindness and big heart will be remembered and deeply missed by his large family, many friends and neighbours.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
