Ronald Burns
1934-2019
We, the family of Ronald Leon Burns, regret to announce his
passing on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.
Born October 29, 1934, in Kennetcook, NS, he was the son of
the late Harry and Muriel (Ettinger) Burns, who grew up on the family
farm in Selma, NS.
Dad was first and foremost a family man. Together with Mum he
raised his family in St. Catharines, Ontario and moved to Sydney in
1978 to start a new chapter with his East coast family. He worked many
years for Burns Construction, where he was a friend and co-worker to
many. After he retired, he could often be found in his garage fixing a
lawn mower or helping out a friend. He always had time for others and
would go out of his way to help anyone who needed a hand. He had a
quick wit, loved to laugh and sing his favorite country music songs.
He missed mum terribly and we take comfort in knowing they are
together again. We will surely miss that smile and hold tight to our
memories of such a special man we called Dad.
Ronald is survived by his sons, Ron Jr., Thorold, ON, Brian
(Gail), St. Catharines, ON and Kevin (Donna) Sydney, NS; his daughter,
Rhonda (Bryan), St. Davids, ON; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave), Brandy
(Ed), Jessica, Nikki, Kailey, Bradley, Tammy (Darcy), Sarah, Abbey and
Noah; great-grandchildren, Josh, Taylor, Addie, Emma, Gabby, Hudson,
Jack, Sadie and Adriana; sister, Margaret Hycha, Oshawa, ON; many
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Freda (Cox); sisters, Cassie
Linneborn and Maxine Davis; brothers, John, Darrel, Martell, Douglas,
Hadley, George, William and Donald.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Monday, June 24 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the
chapel on Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Mills
officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your
choice.
