Roderick Joseph « Rod » Chiasson
1957-2019
It is with great sadness that the family of the
late Roderick Joseph « Rod » Chiasson announces his
passing on June 22, 2019 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax.
Rod was born July 8, 1957, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. After
graduating from Robert Leckie High School, Rod went to work with the
Department of Transportation in Happy Valley-Goose Bay as a bus
driver. Later, he attended The Cabot Institute in St. John’s
and graduated with a degree in Business Management. Over his career,
Rod worked with many businesses and also had his own business,
« The Mug Up » donut shop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
He finished his career as Business Manager with Kentville Chrysler.
Rod volunteered with many organizations, including the Labrador Winter
Trails Association, Robert Leckie High School Reunion Committee,
Kidney Foundation, Workers Compensation Board and mentored young
adults with disabilities on entering the workforce. Rod had many
obstacles in life but he never gave up. His attitude was « it
is what it is, can’t do much about it, just deal with it,
and get on with life. » He gave his wife Darlene credit for
helping him get through life and his children Andrew and Emily his
inspiration for living. He had a great love for his family, friends,
his furry friend who was always by his side, and he loved to cook. He
was a foodie before anyone knew what a foodie was. A warm smile, a
sincere « Hello, how are you? » was always given to
anyone he met no matter how things were with him. He will be deeply
missed by his wife, Darlene; children, Andrew and Emily; father and
step-mother, Gerry and Veronica; brothers, Tim (Suzanne) and Jason
(Dan); sister-in-law, Donna; nieces and nephews, Miranda, Amy, Sarah,
Alyssa, Dean, Mark and Michael, his beloved dog Buddy and a large
circle of close friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth;
brothers, Randy and Brian. Cremation has taken place and there will be
no visitation, by request. A celebration of Rod’s life will
be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may
be made to The Kidney Foundation, Autism Nova Scotia, Central Kings
Music Program, or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
