Janie Gilmour
1956-2019
After an unexpected and very rapid decline in health, Janie passed away at home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Her last breaths were taken in the company of her husband, Ron, and her children, Kristy (Martin Krumins) and Ryan (Sarah Bertollo), and her sister Sherrie. She will be cherished forever by her grandchildren Eva, Anna, Henry, and Felix. Predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred Murray, Janie will be missed by her siblings Ron (Debbie), Chris (Dianne), Lori-Ann, Sherrie, and by her brothers-in-law Kevin (Sandra) and Bruce (Jennifer). Janie will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Janie lived and loved life to the fullest. She had a passion and a talent for editing and writing. She ran a successful freelance business for over 10 years and finished her career with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as an editor and writer. Her other passion for music and song led her to the Canadian Showtime Chorus; she was a proud member of a wonderful, fun group of women that competed internationally. Janie loved to travel and saw much of the world including memorable trips to the Amalfi Coast, Alaska, Normandy, the Rhine Valley, Vienna, Prague, and India. Janie’s other favourite pastimes included reading, cooking, hiking in Gatineau Park, catching up with family and friends over coffee and dinner, and singing and dancing with her grandchildren.
May the smell of home cooked meals and the sight and thought of hummingbirds remind us of Janie’s infectious laugh and determination.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 3 p.m. Reception to follow where the family will accept condolences and share fond memories of Janie’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Janie may be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.
