With heavy hearts, we the family, announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, Papa and friend, James Arthur Pritchard «Jim» on Sunday, June 9, 2019 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born December 1, 1952 in Halifax, Jim was adopted by loving parents, Art and Marg. Growing up in Bedford, Jim became a decorated boy scout, and he enjoyed building model cars and planes and playing hockey in his backyard rink. He then moved to Sackville, where he built his home, started his family and began his career at Maritime Tel and Tel. He spent many hours playing and coaching at the rink, cheering with «Sneezy» in the Sackville Winter Carnival and enjoying family ski trips. With family grown, Jim planted new roots in Mount Uniacke with his love and best friend, Pam, and started his business, Pritchard Septic Services. In recent years, Jim enjoyed NASCAR racing and collecting his favourite driver’s cars (Dale Jarrett) and watching hockey with the «wife» (when he could get control of the remote). Jim’s big physical presence paled in comparison to his even bigger heart, which held immense gratitude for the life he was given, treasuring most of all, dear friends and family, and his beloved companion Harley. He had a deep appreciation for all living things, including the birds and squirrels who would come to visit and remind him when they were hungry. He loved his camp in Porters Lake, spending as much time there as he could and also his space in Mount Uniacke, where friends were always welcome with open arms to have a drink and share a story. He had the kindest soul, always giving without expectations. Jim will be greatly missed and always loved by those he is leaving behind: the love of his life, Pamela Rasmussen, Mount Uniacke; son, Jeffrey Pritchard (Jan Ainslie), Dartmouth; his most precious gift, granddaughter, Danielle Pritchard, Dartmouth; daughter, Jennifer Pritchard (Mike Hardy), Halifax; stepdaughters, Ashton (Zeus) and Andrea Rasmussen (Nathan Taylor), Halifax; sister, Dianne Thompson (Jerry), Cochrane, Alta.; nephews, Edward Thompson (Brittany), Cochrane, Alta.; and Phillip Thompson, Kingston, Ont.; lifelong friends, Jim, Sonny, all those at «the club» and his special camp buddy Christopher. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Marguerite Pritchard; and his best friend, Walter Walker. The family would like to thank nurse Amelia, the staff of the Halifax Infirmary Emergency room and 5.2 MSNICU, as well as Jim’s family doctor, Aidan Carey for their care and compassion. No visitation or memorial service by request, private family burial will be held at a later date. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Hope For Wildlife.
