Harry Charles Wilkins May 04 1921 June 20 2019

After a long and happy life, Harry slipped away peacefully on June 20, 2019 in his 99th year. Beloved best friend and husband of almost 70 years to Mickey (née Evans), wonderful Dad to Wendy (Ron Babin), “Bops” to Dave Babin (Sara Porisky) and Kait Babin, “Great-Bops” to Jack Babin. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Alberta and his brother Ken and is survived by his sister, Peggy Majury.
Like his father and brother, Harry proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. He was a long-time employee of the Toronto Transit Commission. Harry was a good and decent man who delighted in the simple pleasures – family gatherings, working in his garden, fishing and canoeing at the cottage and most importantly, taking lots of long walks with Mickey, always hand in hand. He leaves us with lots of happy memories and a good understanding of what is really important in life – loving your family, helping others and taking the time for a good chat and a joke.
We would like to acknowledge the support of the Mississauga Halton LHIN Palliative Care staff and the Carlos Fidani Regional Cancer Centre Palliative Clinic in allowing us to fulfill Harry’s wish to pass away at home. Special thanks to Dr. Dosani and staff, and Nurse Kay for their compassionate care.
We are most grateful to the management and staff of the Chartwell Regency Retirement Home for making Mickey and Harry feel so at home for the last eight years and particularly for their assistance as Harry’s health failed. Their kindness and support are so much appreciated.
At Harry’s request, the funeral will be a simple one with only immediate family. Details of a Celebration of Life will be forthcoming later. Please, no flowers. Should you wish to make a memorial donation in Harry’s memory, we ask that you give to a charity that would allow a child who might not otherwise have the opportunity, a chance to experience some of the things that gave Harry the greatest joy – hiking in the woods, fishing, canoeing and swimming in a clean, fresh lake. Some suggestions would be Camp Oochigeas (“Camp Ooch”) for children and families affected by childhood cancer ooch.org/, the Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund, or Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.
