Laura was born in Victoria. While still very young, her family moved to a farm near Nelson, British Columbia. Her education began in a one-room schoolhouse in Pass Creek. After high school she moved to Vancouver to study art. It was in Vancouver that Laura met Jim, the owner of a small restaurant in the then fledgling, Gastown. They shared many traveling adventures together, from London to Kathmandu and eventually they settled in Vancouver to raise their son, Douglas. When Laura`s mother passed, she moved back to Nelson and lived in the tiny house on Government road which her mother had once occupied.
Laura’s house was packed, with treasures and collectibles she had acquired from her travels and her love of thrift shopping. She worked at the Express newspaper for several years and in the last few years was an active member of Learning In Retirement. Laura loved to cook. Many a fine meal would often be followed by Laura regaling her friends with tales and stories attached to her treasures. Laura had been living with cancer for the last year and on April 30 Laura left us.
Her son Douglas and grandsons, James and Owen, survive her.
She is loved and missed by many.
