Clements, Shirley was Promoted to Glory, while surrounded by her
loving family at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, April 27th,
2019. Shirley was a Soldier in the Salvation Army and loved her
“Lord” dearly. Shirley was the devoted wife and best
friend to Ron for 63 years. She is also survived by her much loved
sons Ron and David and their wives Brenda and Lorie whom she loved as
daughters. Also, left to mourn their Nanna, are her cherished
grandchildren Kaitlin, Zachary and his fiancé Kayla, and Emma and
her husband Sam Saberniak of Colorado. Shirley is also survived and
will be missed by her sister Margaret and her husband Dr. Robert
Handfield and family. She will be missed by many cousins, nieces and
nephews. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Catherine Atkinson
and her two special uncles Allan and John. Shirley was born in Glace
Bay, Cape Breton on October 11, 1935. She moved with her family to
Galt in the early 50’s where she taught at Lincoln Avenue Public
School before leaving to raise her family. As her boys grew older and
were in school, she decided to work part-time at Sears order office on
Main Street and McGills Jewelers and also as a supply teacher.
Shirley suffered ill health most of her adult life and especially the
last ten years or so. Her strong faith was always evident and she
always smiled and replied “Oh I’m Fine” when asked
how she was, even when most times she wasn’t. In lieu of
flowers memorial donations as expressions of sympathy may be made to
the Salvation Army, Canadian Diabetes or Toronto Sick Kids Hospital
and may be done by visiting the Corbett Funeral Home website,
www.corbettfuneralhome.ca, or calling the funeral home at
519-740-0669. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes cremation and a
private family interment has taken place.
Should you go first and I remain,
One thing I’d have you do;
Walk slowly down that long, long path,
For soon I’ll follow you.
I’ll want to know each step you take
That I may walk the same,
For some day down that long,
You’ll hear me call your name.
