Sylvia May Burgher

Sylvia May Burgher - age 78, of Port Williams, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Scott’s Bay in 1940, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Vera (Franklin) Steele. Sylvia moved to Port Williams at the age of 12 and graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She was always a caregiver (professionally and privately) and was recognized by the Kings County Caregiver Community Network in 2008. She had a varied career as an RN; however, her family and community were her priority.  Many organizations benefitted from her volunteerism including guiding, Kinettes, hospital auxiliaries, the Diabetes Association and her church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert "Bob"; son, Alan, daughters, Karen (Greg MacLellan); Debbie (Aaron MacIntyre); grandsons, Patrick and Matthew MacIntyre; granddaughters, Cory and Kathryn Burgher; daughter-in-law Darla Burgher; brother, Eric; sisters-in-law, Peggy Steele and Marie Burgher; brother-in-law, George (Kati) Burgher; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Murray. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Don Flowers and Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Starr’s Point Cemetery, Kings County (Willow Bank Farm). The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Grand View Manor for their exceptional care of our Mom and the kindness you have shown to our family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Grand View Manor, the Port Williams United Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
