It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Romano Joseph Anthony Taus on May 23, 2019, at Maison McCulloch Hospice at the age of 80. Romano was surrounded with an abundance of love from his family. A devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Anne (nee Jakubo) for 57 wonderful years. Loving Father to Katherine, Paula (Marc) Mason, and Michael (Angie) and Nonno to Anthony, Mikayla, Kolton, Jebadiah, Nikolaus, and Jakub. He is reunited with his parents in heaven, Bruno and Antoinette (nee Cassio).
Romano leaves behind his brothers John, (Angela), Paul, (Carmen), his second family ‘The Jakubos’ Sister Mary Jakubo, CSJ, Helen Huneault (Gilles) both predeceased, Joesph (Joan), Edward (Cathy), Michael predeceased, (Jeanne), many nieces, nephews, friends and families. Romano was a faithful Roman Catholic, and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Romano was an incredibly talented and humbled athlete, who excelled in every sport. He loved it when grandsons came over to watch the game with him. Go Yankees! He was well known throughout Canada for his 5 pin bowling and 2 perfect games of 450. He became known as ‘Mr. Bowling” in Sudbury. For years he won recognition as a talented softball and fastball player for the Silversix and his played many years of hockey for Copper Cliff Redmen team. Romano and Anne both loved the game of golf and spent over 25 years every winter in Florida, Boyne, Myrtle Beach, also here in Sudbury, and when they lived on Manitoulin Island. Romano is probably enjoying a game of bocce with his father and cousins right now! Romano’s most enjoyable times were with his family and friends enjoying fabulous home cooked Slovak and Italian meals prepared by Anne, ‘Hunyo’. Romano never missed the opportunity to share his sense of humour or story telling that everyone loved! He could make many laugh for hours….. He loved to fish, whether it was for salmon on the Island or smelt fishing late at night at his
secret spot. Romano was a great cook and he enjoyed that skill especially at the Bula Bula! Romano was a caring and devoted husband, a proud Father and as a Nonno, he always had a huge smile and hug for his grandchildren. Nonno was a kind, talented, supportive and an inspiration to them he would often say “never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” He will be missed by many and forever in our hearts …..love you!
A special thank you to the staff at Health Sciences North on Respiratory, Cardiology, and Oncology floors and Maison McCulloch Hospice for providing outstanding care, respect, and dignity to Romano, Dad & Nonno.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Family and friends may gather to greet the family at 9:30. Mass will proceed at 1100 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, 1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury.
