It is with deep sadness that the family of Rodney James Banfield announce his peaceful passing on the morning of May 1, 2019 at the age of 74. Rod will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice and his children Karen (Mike), Jeff (Bridgette) and Glenn (Lois) His 4 grandchildren Jamie, Douglas, Leah, and Andrea are left with treasured memories of their fun loving “Gramp”. Rod is also survived by his sisters Barbara (Paul) Ellie, Marguerite (Don) Rod was predeceased by his parents Netta and Theodore, sisters Ruth, Audrey, and Lorraine and brother in laws Josh, Jack and Reg. Rod was born in Burgeo, the youngest of 7 and the only boy. He grew up cherished and doted on. He started a career with Canada post, a tradition passed on by his father. At 47 he changed careers and became a carpenter and scaffolder. Rod travelled all over the eastern Arctic and loved every minute of it. Rod has friends far and wide from his work travels. Rod loved the outdoors. He loved being out in boat, hanging out yarning with his friends in his shed, going in the woods, at his cabins and moose hunting. Amputation of his leg didn’t slow him down. He shot a 14-point bull that fall. Rod and Alice had 54 years of marriage and loved to do everything together. They especially loved to dance. Rod loved life. He was always positive and cheerful. He was especially well known for his sense of humor, generosity, and spoiling his grandchildren. As per Rod’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at his home in Burgeo on Tuesday May 7, 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 2pm at St. John the Evangelist in Burgeo with Rev. Elsie Rose officiating.
