Ralph S. Vail passed away unexpectedly at Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. He was born in Brockway February 8th, 1931, son of the late W. Artemas and Gladys (Smith) Vail.
Survived by his wife, Avis Ann Elaine (Treadwell) Vail, brothers Cedric (Marylin) Vail, and Carl Vail along with several nieces and nephews.
Ralph first worked for the Charles Price Company Ltd., in Canterbury as a lumber grader. Ralph had a lengthy career of land surveying in Woodstock, and surrounding area of NB. He then built his own surveying company, Ralph S. Vail Ltd.
He was very active in his community; in the St. James United Church, in the Masonic Lodge, and in the Rotary Club where he was the Sergeant at arms and twice he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, the highest honor a Rotarian can receive
In his early years, Ralph had a pilot’s license where he enjoyed flying, and taking people for a tour around the province in a small 2 seater private plane.
During his career, and after his retirement, Ralph became an ardent wood carver in a small room off his garage. This is where he spent many hours creating excellent wood working pieces such as clocks, cribbage boards, gavels, dishes, wooden bowls, lazy susans and many more items.
He gave away hundreds of his masterpiece creations to family, friends, and also to several organizations to raise money for worthy causes (mostly for children).
Ralph will always be remembered for his personal time and generous giving in his community!
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all his loyal supporters, people from his residence at the Riverside Court, and to the Carleton Manor where his wife Avis resides.
