An avid student, Millie was the first family member to attend university. After high school she attended McGill University earning a Bachelor of Science in 1949. After graduation, Earl and Millie were married on July 1, 1949 and soon thereafter, the two began teaching at the United Baptist Bible Training School in Moncton, NB; while in Moncton Millie obtained her B.Ed from Mount Allison.
