Maurice J. Aubut of Curran, ON, passed away peacefully at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital on Monday, May 27, 2019. Born in Grand Falls NB he was the son of the late Orise (Cassista) and Emile Aubut.
Preceded in death by step-brother Joseph (wife Alvine of Grand Falls NB), step-sisters Yvonne, Mary, Lily, Bertha, Rita and Zeta. Survived by step-sister Rose Powers of Riverview NB, formerly of Fredericton NB, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Maurice took lessons in sketching, perspective drawing and oil painting from an American artist/sculptor in his younger days. With that type of early background training it was natural for him to spend his working career in architectural practice, beginning in Ottawa, then in Saudi Arabia and finally in Toronto where he retired in 2004. He settled in eastern Ontario where he designed and built his own house and spent many hours flying sailplanes out of the Pendleton Airfield. The area inspired him to write poetry and a number of books including stories related to flying gliders, the environment and ecological conservation. He renewed his love of the arts in his retirement and produced many beautiful works that consisted of oil paintings, digital collages, digital enhanced photography and digital graphics.
There will be no visitation by request and burial will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at Glenburn Cemetery in Curran ON.
For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca/en/donate/?region=on), may be made in Maurice’s memory.
