Lorraine Viola Hawkins, 88, passed away on April 28, 2019 at Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. She was born on January 31, 1931 in Vermilion, Alberta to Earl William Nelson and Zanatello Violetta (Deford) Nelson.
Lorraine spent her early years in Clandonald and Vermilion, Alberta before moving to Vancouver when she was16. Lorraine worked as a stenographer for General Motors prior to starting her family. As her children grew older Lorraine went back to work at Safeway Canada where she was a cashier for 25 years until she retired.
Lorraine married her soulmate George Arthur Hawkins in 1950 in Vancouver, British Columbia. They were happily married and devoted to each other for 68 wonderful years. Lorraine loved country music and two stepping with her life-long dance partner, George. Family meant everything to Lorraine, and when she wasn’t spending time with them she enjoyed playing cards and games, crocheting, cooking and socializing with her vast group of friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband George, and her parents, Earl and Zanatello Nelson.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter Shelly (Jeffrey) Sheets of Buda, Texas; her son Darr (Therese) Hawkins of Surrey, British Columbia; her brother Blaine (Sherrill) Nelson of Surrey, British Columbia; her sister Lynda Earp of Edmonton, Alberta; granddaughter Sheena Mitchell of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Kirstin (J.D.) Mitchell of Kyle, Texas, granddaughter Kaitlyn Hawkins of Surrey, British Columbia; great granddaughter Rylie Mitchell of Kyle, Texas and great grandson Jaxon Mitchell of Kyle, Texas.
In lieu of a funeral service a celebration of life with occur privately with family members in Texas later in 2019.
