Kathy Ellen Huntus
October 01, 1963 – May 05, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathy Ellen Huntus (nee. Skomoroh) of
Dryden, ON. Kathy passed on Sunday, May 5th, 2019 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health
Sciences Centre after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Kathy was born in Dryden, Ontario on October 1st, 1963 to Anne Gorzen and Harry Skomoroh.
Kathy spent most of her life living in the Dryden area and held the position of Human Resources
Manager with the City of Dryden for over 18 years. Her passion, commitment to change and
leadership were qualities to be admired. Some of Kathy’s favorite past times included
gardening, her infamous “sister trips”, and curling up with a good book. Her most favorite time
was spent with her “Bug”, Kentley.
Kathy had an immense pride for her children and their accomplishments. She always had a
positive attitude and encouraged those around her to take healthy risks. She was fortunate
enough to find the love of her life and build a home that welcomed all. Kathy will be missed by
everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kathy will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Kieran and Makaah
McMonagle; her husband Doug Huntus; her mother Anne LeBlanc; stepfather Laurent LeBlanc;
sisters Jane (Stan) Reynolds, Julie (Larry) Klassen and Judy Toews (Aristides Peraza); and the
light of her life, her granddaughter, Kentley Gardner. Kathy also leaves behind her stepchildren
Jesse, Jayme and Tanner Huntus; special friend, Val Mason-McKeever; and numerous nieces,
nephews and extended family members. Kathy is predeceased by her father Harry Skomoroh.
A special thank you to Dr. Kory Jollymore, Jennifer Nesbitt and Cathy West for their ongoing
care and support through Kathy’s battle; and to the oncology unit at the Dryden Regional Health
Centre for their professionalism, kindness and compassion through this difficult journey.
Cremation will take place and a private family service/interment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oncology Unit at the Dryden Regional Health
