Obituary for Judy Anne Mulligan
It is with extreme sadness we announce that our mother Judy passed away. She had her daughters Gayle and Monica and granddog Izzy by her side. She fought a short but courageous battle with cancer, however, we believe she lost the will to live after her Leafs exited the playoffs in round one yet again. We also know she thought her Blue Jay’s weren’t going to do any better.
Judy will be missed by her large extended family. There are too many to name, plus she would just get all the names mixed up anyways. We do have to name her kitties as she loved them more than her own daughters. Pickles, Cindy, Tinker and The Little One will feel the loss as they were spoiled rotten by mom. She used her amazing wood working skills to build impressive shelving units for their many cat beds.
Mom had a wicked sense of humour, even right up to the end. When she was in hospice, she was staring at her legs which were much skinnier now but proudly stated that she still had nicer legs than Marilyn Monroe. We heard stories about how mom was quite a prankster in her younger years. Her daughters send their condolences to anyone who doesn’t have a mom with a sense of humour like hers. You have no idea what you are missing out on. Mom had a heart of gold, she would give anyone her last $10. Unless she wanted a pack of smokes, then you were out of luck. Thankfully she gave up smoking.
Mom was a diabetic and had to watch what she ate. When she arrived at hospice we were told to let her eat whatever she wanted and she took full advantage of that. It only took a couple of days for her to ask for ice cream for breakfast. When we would say she should have something healthier, the staff were quick to remind us to let her have what she asked for and mom would have a smirk on her face.
A thank you to mom’s co-workers at Orlick Industries who make all her years before retirement bearable. (You know who you are!).
We would like to thank the 6th floor staff in the Mary Grace Wing at St. Joe’s for the care they gave her and a huge shout out to Marian. Mom was touched by the extra special care she gave.
A thank you does not seem to be enough for everyone at Emmanuel House, especially the nurses and PSW’s. The care they gave to our mom was amazing. They went above and beyond their duty to make mom feel special and make sure she was comfortable. They became like family very quickly and we will be forever grateful to them.
As per mom’s request, there will no funeral or Celebration of Life. She was never one to have people fuss over her. Cremation has taken place. If you would like to honour her, you could make a donation to Emmanuel House, Abandoned Cats Rescue or an animal rescue of your choice.
We would like to thank everyone who came to visit her, she truly treasured those moments.
