Obituary for
John Hans Borchardt
John Borchardt (Hans) of Riverside Glen, Guelph, Ontario passed away in his sleep on Sunday morning May 19, 2019 at Hospice Wellington, in Guelph at the age of 93. Cremation has taken place. His frequent comment over the last few years, “Well, that’s life!” reminds us all of the delights and despair that we may encounter.
He was born August 28, 1925 in Bütow, Germany to Paul and Frieda Borchardt. John emigrated to Canada in 1950 with his wife Margo (Margerita Spiegelhoff; d 2013), his father, and two younger siblings: Lorre Bensler and Klaus Borchardt who now live in northern Ontario. His older brother Erhard died in Dorsten, Germany in May 2018. Until his health declined in 2016 John had been living in Magnetawan, Ontario. He moved to Riverside Glen retirement residence to be closer to family members.
John chose to move to Hospice Wellington in Guelph for the last five days of his life. His children Claus Borchardt (Anne), Evelyn Connell (Michael Radford), Harold Borchardt (Rhonda) and grand children Melinda Croft (Tim), Mat Connell (Tamryn Joubert), John-Paul Borchardt (Natasha), great granddaughter Lola Borchardt, and good friend Brian Connell were all able to be with him over his last few days. Also he enjoyed messages from his nephews, niece, and grandniece in Germany throughout the week. The family stories, remembrances, and Kentucky Fried Chicken were all greatly appreciated. He will be missed.
“If there’s another world, he lives in bliss; if there is none, he made the best of this” Robert Burns
A private gathering to remember his life will be held at a later date. To honour John we suggest donations to Hospice Wellington, or any hospice of your choice. Their care, support and counsel helped all of us throughout the week.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de John Hans
