Granvel Gailen Hickey
1949-2019
It is with
great sadness that the family announces the passing of Granvel Gailen
Hickey, age 70, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst
on Wednesday May 29th, 2019.
Born in
Bathurst, he was the son of the late Gabriel Joseph Hickey and the
late Gertrude Vivian (LaPointe) Hickey.
He is
survived by his loving friend and soulmate Barb Hinton, his brothers
Fenton (Carmel), Wayne (Anita), Kevin (Jackie), Darcy (Anna) and Mark
(Lisa) all of Bathurst, his sisters Wendy Harmer (Michael) of Guelph
Ontario, Myra Egan (Francois) of Campbell River BC, Gale Seifert
(Nick), Darlene Hickey (Jim Squires), Stephanie Talbot (Mike) and
Stacy Hickey-Buraglia (Jean-Jacques) all from the Bathurst
area. He is also survived by many nieces and
nephews.
He was
pre-deceased by an older brother Lyman in 1948 and a younger brother
Glen in 2016.
Although a
teacher by profession, he worked for the NB Liquor Commission for 33
years and was retired.
Granvel
enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening (great green thumb), reading, card
games, walking, Christmas decorating and especially his
cats. He was a member of the LeBlanc High School Cadet Core
for 3 years.
Granvel
graciously donated his body to Dalhousie University for research
purposes.
The family
will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, June 2nd, 2019
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home
(www.elhatton.com), St. George
St., Bathurst. A memorial mass will be celebrated
Monday, June 3rd, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Holy Family
Church.
In memory of
Granvel, the family would appreciate donations to the Palliative Care
Unit at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, the SPCA or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
