Carl’s Obituary
Thompson, Carl Phillip– age 70, of Shelburne, Nova Scotia, passed away May 28, 2019 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Garnet and Cora (Horne) Thompson. Carl was the loving husband of Marsa (Isenor) Thompson for 47 years.
Carl taught Industrial Arts for 35 years at Shelburne Regional High School, as well as 47 years teaching Driver Education both through the public school system, and eventually, through his private driving school, Start Rite Driving. One of Carl’s biggest passions was golf; he was a longstanding member of the River Hills Golf & Country Club, where he served as President for a time. Among the many highlights in his golfing career included winning each of the Junior Men’s, Men’s, Senior Men’s, and Super Senior Men’s Championships over the years. He enjoyed several memorable years at the Shelburne Curling Club, and was also a member of the Albert #30 Grand Lodge in Shelburne. He was a gifted craftsman and handyman, helping to build several of his own houses, as well as making many, many pieces of furniture for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marsa; daughters, Tarah Thompson-Schwan (Brent) of Yarmouth, NS, and Tobi Boutilier (Len) of Kentville, NS; two grandchildren, Talia and Zoë; a sister, Barbara MacAlpine (Don); a brother, Bill Thompson (Rosalind); aunts, Jean Pye and Rhoda Rogers; nieces, Susan MacAlpine-Gillis (Paul), Jill Brogan (Sean), Ann Thompson (Erik Larsen), and nephew, Jay Thompson (Jen); as well as several great nieces and great nephews.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Shelburne. Donations in Carl’s memory may be made to MADD Canada or the War Amps. You may leave messages of condolence or sign the on-line guestbook by visiting www.huskilson.net
