Bina Standing died peacefully on May 23, 2019 at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton at age 87.
Bina was the youngest of the eight children of Azade Arsenault and Delina Gallant. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Alma, Frieda and Beatrice, her brothers infant Freddie, Arthur and Fred and her daughter Sharon Lorraine McCloskey.
Bina is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Roger Michael “Mick” Standing and her sister Terry Legault of Summerside P.E.I. She will be dearly remembered by her children Deborah Ann Bates (Warren) of Mississauga Ontario, Catherine June Tisdelle of Tottenham Ontario, David Michael Standing (Evelyn) of Brampton Ontario and Dwayne Paul Standing (Linda Bailey) of Georgetown Ontario. Proud grandmother to Rebecca Macias (Jonathan), Justin Tisdelle (Maddie), Ashley Standing, Nicole Maclellan (Jamie), Jillian Standing (Colton Whittaker) and Ryan Standing (Cristina Caria-McCoy) and great-grandmother to Rahne Macias and Alexandra Maclellan. Bina will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Bina had a full life, always dedicated to her family. She worked in Toronto at Walker’s Store and York University before coming to the Maritimes helping Mick start the R.M. Standing Insurance Agencies Ltd. Bina held the position of Vice President until they sold the company to enjoy retirement in 1999.
Bina met Mick at a band concert in Summerside’s public gardens two days after the RCAF transferred him from Trenton Ontario. This was a magical moment and two years later they were married on Mick’s 20th birthday. They would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on August 4th this year.
With the RCAF Bina and Mick moved from Summerside to Goose Bay Labrador and then to Comox on Vancouver Island. The family then moved to Victoria when Mick accepted a position with an insurance company starting a career that lasted until their retirement in 1999. Bina and Mick were blessed with the opportunity to visit the Caribbean, the United States, Mexico and Europe.
They were fortunate to have many friends who added to the joy of their marriage and perhaps the greatest joy is the closeness of their children. Bina touched many lives and will be missed by family and friends. All will remember her beautiful smile. God Bless you.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 52 Falkland Street on Wednesday June 5th at 11 a.m. Interment Fairhaven Memorial Gardens 1177 Salisbury Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bina’s memory may be made to the New Brunswick Right to Life Association Inc. P.O. Box 113, Station A, Fredericton, E3B 4Y2.
