Barbara O. Ward
1931-2019
It is with great sadness that the
family of Barbara Olivia Ward, 87, announce her peaceful passing at
the Villa du Repos in Moncton, NB on Saturday May 25th,
2019.
Born in Springhill, NS on October
4th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harmen and Ina
Schurman. After graduation from High School in Truro, she
moved to Moncton, NB where she graduated from Success Business
College. Over the years, she worked at Staples Drug Store
and the Admitting office at the Moncton Hospital. During
this time, she met Lewis Ward through a friend. When we
asked Dad before his passing why he married Mom, his only comment was,
«She was a good kisser!» and the rest is our wonderful
family history.
Barb was a loving, devoted wife and
enjoyed every moment with Dad, whether it be on a boat down the Thames
River or at home playing Skip-Bo with friends they invited over for
dinner. She was an incredible mother, always taking the time
to share her faith in God and her love of nature and all
animals. She was extremely close to her brother and sisters,
and at every opportunity we were carted off to Rodney, NS where the
Schurman family ALL have wonderful memories. Mom saw the good in
everyone, and would try to help people both locally and around the
world. She was a very charitable woman and was a member of
the Christian Woman’s Club.
She was predeceased by the love of
her life, husband Anthony Lewis Ward of almost 66 years and her
brother Bruce Schurman. Survived by son Richard (Carla) of
Hanwell, NB, daughter Diane of Moncton, NB, son Dana of Stewiacke, NS,
son Anthony (Linda) of Dieppe, NB, son Barry (Chantal) of Oakdale, CT
and daughter Elaine (Tim) of Moncton, NB. She is also
survived by her three siblings Louise, Eliza, and June; by her
grandchildren Natasha, Danika, Jason (Jennifer), Jessica, Melissa,
Sarah, and Tayla; and also, by her four great
grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at St.
John’s United Church, 75 Alma Street, on Monday, May 27,
2019 from 2pm to 3pm, followed by a service to
celebrate and honour Barbara’s life at 3:00 pm, with The
Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Reception to follow in the Owen Fraser
Hall. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a later
date.
The family wishes to extend special
thanks to the staff of the Villa du Repos for their excellent, loving
care of Mom this last year. Mom always made a point to remember and
say the name of all the care givers. Special thanks to her guardian
angel Courtney Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada or a charity
