We the family of the late Annie Mae Sampson of L’Ardoise and the Richmond Villa regretfully announce her leaving us quickly and peacefully on April 30, 2019 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish.
Born in Gracieville, Richmond County in 1923, she was the last surviving member of the family of Helaire and Mamie Gracie.
Left to mourn are her children, Valerie (Harry) Sampson, Eleanor Samson, Gerry (Nancy) Sampson, Earl (Brenda) Samson, and son- in-law Cyril Sampson; her grandchildren, Megan Samson, Evan Sampson, Bradley Chivari, Jay Adamsson, Tanya Ruppell, Shara Johnson, Stacy Ashfield and Cory Sampson; her great grandchildren, Stanley, Connor, Zaine, Katie, Lila, Kylar, Hunter, Amaya, and Max; as well many nieces and nephews.
Also missing Annie are many special friends at the Richmond Villa as well as “adopted” daughter Robin Benoit who always called Annie “Mom”.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Stan Sampson, her daughters Irene Sampson and Beverly Chivari as well as her son- in-law Sonny Chivari. She was also predeceased, by her sisters, Minnie Gracie, Emma Wilson, Mary Sampson, and her brothers, Joseph (Buster) Masters and Walter (Son) Masters.
Annie lived a long , happy and productive life. In addition to raising her six children, she spent many years caring for her father- in-law Albany Sampson and her special needs brother- in-law Reggie Sampson.
She was a founding member of both the L ‘Ardoise Ladies Social Club and the Ladies Auxilary of the Legion Branch 110, L’Ardoise. She was also a member of the Jolly Club and spent many hours doing volunteer work for various community activities.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Richmond Villa for their compassionate and loving care during the last five years.
We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of both the Strait Richmond and St. Martha’s Hospitals.
Also a special thanks to Father Duncan Mac Isaac for administering the Sacrament of the Sick.
Visitation will held on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. at the Holy Guardian Angels Visitation Parlor in L’Ardoise. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church in L’Ardoise.
Memorial donations may be made to the L’Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department or the Richmond Villa Activity Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury.
