Getchell, Norma (nee Rose, O’Neill)
A longtime resident of Ridgetown, Norma Getchell passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18 2019 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 91.
Born on April 27, 1927 in Howard Township, Norma was the daughter of the late Alvin & Beulah (nee Sheppy) Rose.
Beloved wife of the late Gordon O’Neill (1995) & the late Raymond Getchell (2001).
Loving mother of Rosemary O’Neill (Fran) of Morpeth & Greg O’Neill (Mary) of Strathroy.
Grandmother of Kyle, Jason & Luke O’Neill.
Predeceased by her brother, Don Rose and survived by sister-in-law, Barbara of Rondeau.
Missed by several nieces & nephews.
Norma was a devoted longtime member of Emmanuel Congregational Church in Ridgetown, an avid leader with Bible Studys and active in many of their groups. She began her passion for teaching at the young age of 17, in a one room school house, and retired as a Teacher from many Elementary Schools in Chatham-Kent. Norma enjoyed spending her time gardening, in and outside of her home.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Village on the Ridge for their care and compassion.
Family to receive friends on Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm & 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 am on Monday at Emmanuel Congregational Church, 92 Erie Street North, Ridgetown with Rev. Tim Lukings as officiant. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery to follow.
In memory of Norma, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
