Nick Smysniuk was born April 2, 1929 in Bedfordville, Saskatchewan and passed away April 16, 2019 in Ituna. He attended Bon Accord School until he finished grade 9 and then went to Ituna where he took grades 10 & 11. He completed his grade 12 in Saskatoon and continued at Mohyla Institute until 1950 when he received his teaching certificate. He spent the next 2 years teaching in a one room school house at which time he went out East, as he said, to hopefully make his millions. He returned to Saskatchewan after 2 years and went back to teaching. He taught in a number of schools and ended up in Plenty, Saskatchewan in 1965, teaching there until he retired as a principal in 1986. He always made time to tutor or mentor anyone that needed it. He moved back to Ituna in 2010 and to the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Center in December 2014. He would return to Ituna every summer when school was out and loved to drive through the back roads and his old homestead, telling stories about the past. He loved country western music especially Georgie Jones and was also a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. He was always taking care of cats, even at the Pioneer Health Care Center.
He was predeceased by his parents William Smysniuk and Parania Arabsky, along with brothers Harry (who died shortly after birth), John, Mike, Russell, Dan, sister Helen and sister-in-law Ann.
He is survived by a brother Roy, a sister Anne and sister-in-laws Pauline and Shirley along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The direct nieces & nephews would include Yvonne (Tony) Medvesek, Sheri (Brian) Mcgregor, Billy Smysniuk, Elmer Hluchman, Wilmarie (Richard) Knudson, Don Kalyniuk, Bill (April) Kalyniuk, Stanley Roy Boobin Smysniuk, Rhonda Smysniuk, Kathy (Eric) Magnusson, Christina (Wayne) Kralkay, Fred (Sara) Smysniuk, & Cynthia (Nigel) Kalyniak
Cremation is being carried out at his request with internment to follow at a later date.
