Obituary of Marie Flora Ashley
Marie Flora (Miller) Ashley, 88, of Lantz, Nova Scotia, passed away on Good Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Colchester-East Hants Hospital in Truro, Nova Scotia.
She was born in Lantz, Nova Scotia to Charles and Flora (Green) Miller. She attended Lantz District School and was a Girl Guide Leader in her youth. She also attended art college classes in her youth and passed that talent down to her children and grandchildren. During her married life, Marie worked at various retail jobs across Canada and received training as an assistant to the dietician at the hospital in Gander, Newfoundland. She was also the assistant manager at the former CARA gift shop at the Halifax International Airport. In later years she loved getting into discussions about the Toronto Maple Leafs and debating politics.
She is survived by sons James (Donna), Lantz, Greg (Gloria), Enfield, Peter (Marjorie), Dutch Settlement, and daughter Shelley (Bryan) Ross, Bruderheim, Alberta, numerous grand children, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Carl (Joyce) Miller, and sister Joan (John) Haynes, both of Lantz, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband Robie, brothers Harry (Blanche) and Hector, sisters Grace (Jim) Draycott, and Shirley Blois.
There will be no visitation by request. Remains have been cremated. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. George’s Anglican Church in Dutch Settlement, Nova Scotia at 2:00 pm., with Reverend Canon David Fletcher officiating.
Marie was always generous with numerous charities. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a memorial donation to a charity of their choice.
The family wish to thank the nurses of the palliative care unit at the Colchester-East Hants Hospital in Truro for their loving care, Reverend Canon David Fletcher, the organist and auxiliary of St. George’s Anglican Church, Piper Robert Redden and the wonderful care of Ettinger’s Funeral Home in Shubenacadie. The family also wishes to extend our sincere gratitude for all the love and support of family and friends.
Marie was a very loving and giving soul whose last wishes were that families stay together in love and support…always. We will miss her.
