Obituary of Gladys Myrtle Shaw
Unexpectedly on Friday, April 26, 2019, Gladys Myrtle Shaw (nee Morrison) in her 83rd year, reunited with her beloved husband of 48 years, Gerry (Gerard). Gladys will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Jody and son-in-law Daniel Boileau (Sechelt, BC), Jennifer and son-in-law Paul Brouwer. Cherished Granny to Allison and Thea who will miss her dearly.
Survived by sisters-in-law Louise Morrison of Mount Forest, Elsie Morrison of Coquitlam B.C., Phyllis Needham and Ann Muir (Wasaga Beach), and brother-in-law David Shaw (Nfld). Predeceased by brothers Arthur, Ross and Grant, infant sister Norma and sister-in-law Kathleen MacDonald (nee Shaw) of London. Gladys will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and their families who often said that “everyone should have an Aunt Gladys”. She will also be missed by her two very dear lifelong friends Joan and Virginia. Gladys was born in Arthur Township to parents Cecile Morrison and Myrtle (nee Reynolds). She grew up on the farm and was proud of her rural roots and always loved going ‘home’ to Mount Forest and area to visit with her brothers and extended family. She attended school in a one room school house, after graduating high school she moved to London at the age of 18. She met Gerry and they were married in 1959 making London home for many years, retiring to the cottage in Port Franks in 1999. Gladys was known for her infectious ‘spark’ and was often the life of the party. She cherished a good singalong with family, friends and neighbours; playing the piano and leading the group in chorus. She played with the Old Smoothies at Westminster Veterans now Parkwood Hospital for over 20 years. She was an avid bridge player, playing in London and with The Dunes Bridge Club in Port Franks. Gladys was devoted to family. For years, while maintaining a successful career in the insurance industry, she managed house and cottage, always welcoming family and friends (the more the merrier). There are many fond memories of multiple generations enjoying ‘happy hour’ on the deck at Port Franks. She was fiercely independent living at the cottage on her own until recently. Gladys held her faith firm and strong and was prepared to meet her maker, so we celebrate a wonderful life lived as she journeys forward. It is however with profound sadness that we say good bye. Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Thursday, May 2nd from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Chapel at Windemere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Street North, on Friday, May 3rd at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at a later date. If desired, donations in Gladys’ memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local food bank.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Gladys
