1939 – 2019
Charles Richard Lindsay, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Lindsay, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, on Friday April 12, 2019, at the age of 79 years. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Noreen (Art) Beyko, Allyn (Duane) Ottenbreit, Garth (Susan) Embree, Dawn (Chris) Keim, Stuart (Leona) Lindsay; grandchildren, Eric Hasfjord, Mark (Erin) Hasfjord, Jayson (Jen) Ottenbreit, Kyle (Shantel) Ottenbreit, Rolando Lozano, Natalia Lozano (Phillip Lira), Nathan and Sarah Lust, Eric, Kyle and Taylor Keim, Bobbie Jo Wilson (Phil Baird), Tina Wilson (Chris Leidal), Toni Davies and great-grandchildren, Mason, Brooklyn, Avery, Nikolai, Fallen, Rowan, Chloe, Charlotte and Dante. He is survived by his brother, Phillip (Pam) Lindsay, sisters, Lucille (Gordon) and Eleanor (Rex); sister-in-law, Jessie (John), brothers-in-law, Leonard and Ernie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; son, Larry; daughter, Laura; parents, Charles and Mary; sister, Marilyn (Bryan), Margaret (Barry); Dorothy’s sisters and brothers, Georgina (Burt), Irene, Donald, Joe (Marg) and Bruce.Charles was born and raised in Cust, New Zealand. After receiving his electricians certificate while working at Addington Railway in Christchurch, Charles decided to see more of the world and began travelling. He settled in Kamloops, BC getting a job with CP Railway and was eventually transferred to Medicine Hat where he met and married Dorothy. Charles left CP Rail and worked at various companies as an electrician. After retiring, he took up golf which lead to a seasonal job with the Riverview Golf Club as part of the grounds crew. Charles was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, past President of the Medicine Hat Soccer Association and former piper with the South East Pipe and Drums Band. He had a love of many things including reading, golf, rugby, soccer, NASCAR and Star Wars just to name a few. He enjoyed his friendship with his “Lunch Buddies” at the Veiner Centre but mostly Charles loved the time spent with his family. A Celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street SE, Medicine Hat, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery with a time of fellowship to followe thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Donations may be made to the Medicine Hat Hospital, 666 – 5 Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6 or to the charity of one’s choice.
