Alvin Edward Wiedman
Mr. Alvin Edward Wiedman (Al) passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years with his family by his side at the Nanaimo General Hospital.
Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; daughters Shelley Wiedman and partner Shelley Holte; Carrie Barter (Wiedman) and Darin Barter; five grandchildren, Skye and Shane Garnett, Breanna, Andrew and Anthony Barter; and two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Emmett Garnett. He is also survived by sisters Annie and Florence and brother Ray.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; all of whom he treasured.
Al was born in Trochu, Alberta to parents George and Theresea Wiedman. His parents were early settlers in
Alberta, having emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s. During Al’s formative years, he worked alongside his parents and siblings on the homestead and attended rural schools in the area.
After moving to Calgary, Al started a 35-year career in elevator construction and maintenance.
Those fortunate to have known Al will remember his unwavering kindness and strength of character both of which stemmed from his deeply held belief in the value of family, friends, community, honesty, and hard work.
As his immediate and extended family and friends will know, Al loved to tell a good (or not-so-good!) joke and was fond of ‘spinning a good yarn’. He was a gentleman who loved to engage with anyone who had some time to talk, and they usually ended up friends.
Al’s family wishes to thank Dr. Mander, his primary care physician, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Nanaimo General Hospital.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Alvin Edward Wiedman 2019..
