Roy Carl Reiche was born October 8th, 1950, the eldest child of Carl and Erla Reiche. He spent the start of his childhood in Germanicus and then later moved to Eganville and Shady Nook. In 1973 Roy graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours BA in Business Administration, and in 1976, he graduated from the University of Windsor Law School with an LLB (Juris Doctor). He was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1978, and remained an active member of the Bar in good standing for the rest of his life. In 1974, Roy married Linda Donaldson, and they had two children, Sheldon and Alison.
Roy was confirmed at St. John’s Germanicus and was a member of St. John’s Pembroke, where he sang in the choir. Music was one of his passions. In addition to playing the viola, piano, and organ, he was always ready to lead a family hymn sing.
Growing up, Roy worked in the family lumber business. Later, as a lawyer, he exhibited both a strong work ethic and wry sense of humour in his dedication to the welfare of his clients. In addition to his busy law practice, Roy was active in the community and in politics. He served as a trustee for the Renfrew County District School Board, including several terms as Chair. He also served as Chair of the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), President of the Renfrew County Law Association, and as a Director of Family & Children’s Services.
Roy never let his health get in the way of living a full and active life. He was dedicated to his family, and he and Linda enjoyed hosting many Christmas dinners and other family celebrations. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Roy liked to fish and eagerly looked forward to the annual deer hunt. He also loved to travel, cheer for his Ottawa Senators, enjoy a glass of good wine, and barbeque.
Roy is survived by his wife Linda, his children Sheldon and Alison (Ragunath Singaravelu), his brothers Ron (Pam Lambert) and Wayne (Linda), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Carl Reiche and Erla Reiche (Sack), his sister Linda (Don Drew), and his niece/god-daughter Ashley.
